Kayleigh and Dudley — March 3, 2023

Kayleigh and Dudley

~ Kayleigh and Dudley ~

Almost a year ago, Kayleigh, her husband and their cat, Pig, welcomed Dudley, a mini Dachshund, into their home. Since then, they have become a family and have improved each other’s lives.

For as long as she can remember, Kayleigh has always wanted a Dachshund. When she and her husband got married in January 2022, they decided it was a good time to look into adopting a furry friend. After some searching for a breeder who was registered and DNA tested, they met the right breeder for them and nine months later, they were told they might have a puppy!

After six weeks, Kayleigh and her husband were able to meet with the new litter. Once there, she instantly fell in love with one of the smallest puppies. He was tiny and wiggly, and as soon as he met Kayleigh, he went right over to sit in her lap to snuggle her, then went to snuggle Kayleigh’s husband. They both knew that this pup, now named Dudley, was perfect and, two weeks later, he was on his way to his forever home.

Having Dudley has improved his family’s life hugely, especially Kayleigh’s life. When she may be having a challenging mental health day, Dudley is always there for her. He encourages his human to wake up and feed him in the morning, and, no matter what, never fails to make her laugh and smile throughout the day.

Something that Kayleigh and Dudley enjoy is playing together. As Dudley is still quite young, he has seemingly endless energy and would happily play with his mini tennis ball all day, every day or do zoomies outside through the grass. At the end of the day, however, when he’s winding down, he loves snuggling up with his humans and has been known to watch a movie or two with them. As well as this, Dudley and Pig have also been known to spend time together, especially when treats are involved!

The impact that Dudley has had on his family has been huge. Kayleigh and he have formed such a special bond and each day is full of endless joy and laughter and unconditional love, simply because they have one another.

Nicole and Rigatoni — February 3, 2023

Nicole and Rigatoni

~ Nicole and Rigatoni ~

Almost two years ago, Nicole met Rigatoni, a sweet little Dachshund puppy. Since then, they have become the best of friends and have helped each other hugely.

In 2021, shortly after the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions began to lift, Nicole was looking to adopt a dog. She had been feeling lonely and wanted a companion who could keep her company while working from home. When a friend told her there was a litter of puppies looking for a home, Nicole jumped at the chance and arranged a visit.

Once there, Nicole instantly fell in love with one pup in particular – Rigatoni. He sat with her and gave her lots of cuddles, choosing her to be his human. A few weeks later, Rigatoni was on his way to his new forever home.

Having Rigatoni has hugely impacted Nicole’s life. No matter what, he can always brighten his human’s day by sharing endless joy and laughter. Not only has he impacted Nicole’s life, but also that of their community and others online. Shortly after adopting him, Nicole posted a video of him to social media. It went viral and she received hundreds of messages from people telling her how much it made their day.

Something that Nicole and Rigatoni enjoy doing is being active and social together. Living in an apartment building, and across from a popular dog park, they’re often stopped by people, and sometimes dogs, wanting to say hi to Rigatoni. Nicole tries to organise puppy-playdates whenever possible, so much so, he runs straight to the door whenever she says, “Do you want to see your friends?” It means a lot to Nicole to have such a supportive group of friends, as well as seeing the joy it brings Rigatoni.

The bond that Nicole and Rigatoni share is so special. They have brought so much love and light into each other’s lives. Every day is made better simply because they have one another.

Ashlee, Nate and Pablo — October 21, 2022

Ashlee, Nate and Pablo

~ Ashlee, Nate and Pablo ~

Just over two years ago, Pablo found his forever home with Ashlee and Nate. In the time since then, they have all formed a very special bond and Pablo has brought so much happiness to his family.

Ashlee had been wanting a dog for as long as she can remember. She and Nate decided to look into finding the right one for them. Before long, they found someone who had a litter of Dachshund puppies. It wasn’t the best timing for them, but once they met the pup, they knew he was perfect. They instantly adopted him and named him Pablo.

Not long after adopting Pablo, Ashlee and Nate realised that he was actually a Miniature Dachshund! He had been growing fairly quickly, but at 15 weeks old, he was fairly small and at seven months old, he was fully grown.

Having Pablo has had a big impact on Ashlee and Nate. They often travel for work, so having a bubbly canine companion has helped them a lot. He keeps them company and can always brighten their day. Not only has Pablo helped Ashlee and Nate, but also their family. Through challenges, he has brought joy and laughter to help them get through it.

Initially, when Ashlee and Nate adopted Pablo, they were told that Dachshunds can be difficult to train. However, through a lot of time and patience, Pablo has learnt a lot and shown that he is always willing to learn. He has learnt good manners, obedience and discipline. Both Ashlee and Nate are very proud of him and how far he has come with his training!

Something that Ashlee, Nate and Pablo love to do together is explore. Whether exploring a new park or going on a car trip, Pablo loves to go on adventures with them and simply spend time together.

The bond that Ashlee, Nate and Pablo have all formed is so special. They see him as their son. They have so much love for him and he brings them so much happiness. He helps complete their family and bring them closer together.

Sam, Jo, Sophie and Rocky — September 19, 2022

Sam, Jo, Sophie and Rocky

~ Sam, Jo, Sophie and Rocky ~

About a year ago, Sam, Jo and Sophie adopted Mini Dachshund pup, Rocket. Since then, he has brought his family endless joy, love and laughter and they have formed such a beautiful bond.

One day in 2021, Jo was told of a small Dachshund puppy who, when old enough, would need a home. She decided almost instantly that she would adopt the pup, named Rocket or Rocky, and wanted it to be a surprise for her husband, Sam, and daughter, Sophie. However, it was too exciting for Jo to keep it a secret and told her family before Rocky was welcomed into their family.

When Sam, Jo and Sophie adopted Rocky, they were going through a lot. Jo had just lost her mother and Sam was struggling as an essential worker during the Covid-19 pandemic. Whenever Sam returned home, seeing an excitable puppy jumping up with a wagging tail always brightened his day. After Jo lost her mother, Rocky didn’t leave her side. He followed her everywhere and helped comfort her during this time.

Not only has Rocky impacted Sam, Jo and Sophie, but also everyone he meets. Whenever they go out for a walk, everyone smiles with they see Rocky’s cute little face and often stop to say hello. It means so much to Sam, Jo and Sophie to be able to share so much joy with so many people.

The impact that Rocky has had on his family has been huge. He has changed Sam, Jo and Sophie’s lives for the better and they all bring so much love and joy into each and every day.

Niqi and Teddy — June 20, 2022

Niqi and Teddy

~ Niqi and Teddy ~

A few years ago, Niqi met Teddy, a beautiful Dachshund puppy. Their journey since then hasn’t been easy, however, they’ve been by each other’s side, providing love and happiness throughout all the tough times.

Having always wanted a dog, Niqi was thrilled when she met a litter of Dachshund puppies. They were all adorable and Niqi loved all of them, however, one puppy, in particular with a dark-tipped tail, stood out to her. He immediately snuggled into her and she knew that he had chosen her in that moment. Without any doubt, Niqi decided to adopt the pup and named him Theodore, or Teddy for short.

Having Teddy changed Niqi’s life. Each day, he brought her unconditional love and is like a ray of sunshine. No matter what, he can always brighten Niqi’s day. Teddy has changed her life for the better.

When Teddy was 5 years old, he had his first intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) episode. Niqi took him to the vet where she was told he had stage 5 IVDD, the most severe stage. It was an incredibly difficult time for Niqi as she feared the worst. Despite the severity, Teddy never gave up. He was determined to survive and fight his horrible illness.

After a year of recovery and 24/7 monitoring, Teddy survived IVDD, however, it left his back legs paralysed. To help him get around, Niqi got him his own wheelchair. Seeing how well he adjusted to his new way of living was inspirational to her. Teddy never seemed upset or annoyed about having to use a wheelchair, and was quickly able to speed around!

Through sharing Teddy’s story, Niqi hopes it can provide others in similar situations with support and guidance. She is happy to answer any questions owners may have. Remembering how difficult it was for her, she wants to help the process feel less daunting. On Teddy’s page, Niqi shares photos of him loving and living life to the fullest. He shows everyone that, while he may have paralysis, it doesn’t mean he can’t live how he wants to.

Something that Teddy and Niqi love doing together is going for walks. It’s time they can simply enjoy each other’s company and just be in the moment. As well as this, Teddy is quite the spoilt pup! Niqi often shares her food with him (dog-friendly snacks, of course!) and gives him endless cuddles.

The bond that Niqi and Teddy share is so special. They bring so much love and joy into each other’s lives. Though they have been through some challenging times, together, they became stronger.

Pickle’s Pawtraits — December 23, 2021

Pickle’s Pawtraits

~ Pickle’s Pawtraits ~

Just over a year ago, Abbey and Harley adopted Dachshund pup, Pickle. Since then, they have become a small family and have created a community full of animal lovers.

Abbey and Harley had always loved animals, and when they heard of a litter of Dachshund puppies, they instantly jumped at the chance to adopt. When they met with them, a bubbly pup excitedly greeted them. Abbey and Harley knew from that moment this was the perfect furry friend. They adopted her and named her Pickle.

Not long after having Pickle, Abbey and Harley created an Instagram account. They soon discovered how supportive and encouraging the animal community was and so decided to become more involved within it. That’s when they had the idea to start Pickle’s Pawtraits

Having Pickle has brought Abbey and Harley so much joy. They created a pawtrait of Pickle and their cat, Puss, and it brought smiles to their faces and their friends. So, they began creating pawtraits of other pet parents’ fur babies. Not only do they make digital pawtraits, but also mugs, stickers, and have their sights set on a few other products!

One of Abbey and Harley’s favourite things is getting to interact with so many pet parents from across the world. They love their work and it means a lot that they’re able to share their passion for animals with so many. Not only this, but hearing how much happiness each pawtrait brings also means the world to both Abbey and Harley.

In 2021, Abbey and Harley were featured on The Project, a New Zealand news program. They shared their story about how Pickle’s Pawtraits began and what they hope for the future of their business. This was a big highlight for Abbey and Harley in their Pickle’s Pawtraits journey. Being able to share what they do has helped them reach more people.

Since starting Pickle’s Pawtraits, Abbey and Harley donate $5 from each pawtrait to different animal charities across NZ. Each month they choose a new charity, and at the end of that month, they donate the proceeds. They have helped many different charities, including Nine Lives Orphanage, Chained Dogs Rehabilitation and Rehoming NZ, NZ Chihuahua Rescue, and, most recently, Boxers and Bullies NZ. Not only does this greatly help each charity, but it also spreads awareness around the work they do for animals in NZ.

The impact that Pickle has had on Abbey and Harley has been huge. She has brought so much happiness and love into their lives. The love Abbey and Harley have for animals is evident in what they do with Pickle’s Pawtraits and for the animal community in New Zealand.
