~ Lauren and Winnie ~

A few years ago, Lauren met Winston for the first time. Since then, they have had a huge impact on each other’s lives and bring strength, love and joy into every single day. 

In 2021, Lauren was contacted by a rescue to take in a four-week-old pup. He had been born with deformed legs and needed someone to provide him with special care. Immediately, she said yes. Two and a half weeks later, the puppy, Winston, was welcomed into his forever home. 

Having Winston, or Winnie, has had a huge impact on Lauren. While he may face additional challenges, he has never let this slow him down or prevent him from living his best life. Seeing this is inspiring to Lauren, he encourages her to live her life to the fullest while also ensuring to provide her canine companion with everything he could need to thrive. 

Since adopting Winnie, Lauren has become a passionate advocate for animals with disabilities. Through their social media platforms, they help support others with animals who have disabilities, as well as help people to learn about what it means. Lauren and Winnie often hold meet and greets, as well as speak at events to help educate as many people as possible. It’s important to Lauren for people to know that Winnie and other animals with disabilities are able to life a full and happy life. Winnie is proof of this in that he can often be seen doing zoomies in his ‘Winmobile’, playing with friends and spending time with his loved ones. 

Every day is made better, simply because Lauren and Winnie have one another. They have supported each other through thick and thin. Their lives have been changed immeasurably for the better. 

Lauren and Gus — March 28, 2022

In 2019, Lauren met fluffball, Gus. Since then, they have formed a beautiful bond that has brought so much happiness and love into both their lives. 

Three years ago, Lauren saw a listing for a very fluffy black cat named Gus on the advertising website, Craigslist. She fell in love with his sweet little face and decided to adopt him. When she went to pick him up, Lauren was surprised by his feisty nature, but that made her love him even more, a little fluffy ball of sass.

Having Gus in her life has had a huge positive impact on Lauren. He has helped to brighten her days, shown unconditional love, and is always able to make her laugh with his antics. 

Gus continues to be a feisty ball of fluff. He loves Lauren immensely and even tries to protect her from anyone and everyone who tries to go into her house. Despite his protective nature, he enjoys affection from his human and, his favourite, the occasional goldfish cracker. 

The bond that Lauren and Gus share is truly special. He means so much to his human and has showered her with love ever since she gave him his forever home and the love they have for one another will only continue to grow. 

Lauren and Chili — February 22, 2022

At the start of 2021, Lauren welcomed Chili, a sweet and excitable pup, into her life. Since then, they have formed a beautiful bond and have helped each other immensely. 

For as long as she can remember, Lauren has always wanted a dog. When she moved to New Zealand just over a year ago, she felt this was the right time. Not long after making the decision did she hear of a litter of Nova Scotia Duck Toller Retriever puppies. She saw photos of the pups and was in love with one in particular – Chili. Lauren decided that this was the perfect puppy and adopted her. 

Having Chili has had a huge impact on Lauren. As someone who often works from home, having Chili has encouraged Lauren to get up and go for walks, to relax and to simply take a break every now and then. Not only this, but Chili has helped Lauren to become more confident. She knows she has to be clear and consistent when training dogs, and this has helped her to better communicate with others. 

Since getting Chili, Lauren has discovered her passion for dog training. They train every day and learn alongside one another. It’s something they both enjoy doing together and it helps further strengthen their relationship. They have so much fun working on new tricks and routines together. Currently, Chili is at an intermediate level for her tricks!

During the 2021 Covid-19 lockdowns in New Zealand, Chili greatly impacted Lauren. Each day she was encouraged to get up and go for a walk and was a great companion. As a result, Chili became very well known within their neighbourhood as she’s just a sweet and bubbly girl!

One of Lauren and Chili’s favourite things, aside from training, is going to the beach. Chili loves running around and digging in the sand and even occasionally braving the water! It’s especially nice as they love spending this time in each other’s company and just having fun. 

The impact that Chili and Lauren have had on one another has been huge. They share so much love and positivity and have truly changed each other’s lives. 

Lauren and Koa — February 2, 2022

~ Lauren and Koa ~

Two years ago, Lauren adopted Koa, a very intelligent chicken. Since then, she has had a huge impact on Lauren’s life. 

One day in 2019, Lauren and her mother were out to pick up some dog food. At the store, Lauren met some chicks they had for sale. She was immediately drawn to one chick in particular; she was the most confident of them all and felt an instant connection. 

Lauren’s mother agreed to adopt the chick, as well as four others. They were all very excited to welcome five more members into their family. However, Lauren was eager to get to know her confident chick, Koa. 

Having Koa has changed Lauren’s life. Early on, she realised just how special Koa is. Soon enough, Lauren began training Koa to perform a variety of tricks. In turn, Koa has helped Lauren become more patient and a better trainer, both for chickens and dogs! 

With Koa’s talents, both she and Lauren have travelled near and far for performances. They have made many media appearances together, including appearing on season 14 of ‘America’s Got Talent’ in 2019, Nickolodean’s ‘Unleashed’ in 2020, and the Netflix series, ‘Pet Stars’ in 2021, among many others. 

Through their adventures together, they have both met so many people and other animals. With this, with Koa, Lauren has helped spread awareness about and give others a new perspective on chickens. Koa can brighten the days of anyone she meets, and brings immense happiness wherever she goes. 

This has hugely helped Lauren. From new experiences and opportunities to even overcoming her stage fright. Having Koa has changed her life in so many ways. She has helped Lauren to gain a lot of confidence in herself. They love performing and showing off what Koa can do, but they also just enjoy each other’s company. Each day, they train and occasionally try new tricks. It’s time they get together and helps them both to grow as performers. 

It’s obvious just how much Lauren and Koa impact each other. They have helped each other immensely. No matter what, they lift each other up and make one another the best they can be.
